Music for contemporary dance

Hey everyone, I am a choreographer looking for music for a new dance work I am about to create.  I am looking for something with a mix of electronic, maybe strings, with some beats, rhythm (useful for dance) or a good "hook", good melodic progression and strong development and also something with a soul.

Any ideas would be most welcome!! Thankyou!

Some Pet Shop Boys maybe?

Well, I can cover the obvious ones... probably anything from the contemporary/elctronic/classical canon (though you may not get much 'beats' from these guys)...

Max Richter (a bit too obvious maybe)

Johan Johannson

Alarm Will Sound (if you're feeling adventurous)

Or fellow Type-ists:

Peter Broderick

Deaf Center

Goldmund

Ryan Teague (er, me!)

These should get you started with ideas.

Hi

Quite a late reply to this post, but...

My name is man in a shed and I write instrumental music specifically for contemporary dance. My album 'Music for Choreography and Creative Work' has 12 tracks of modern music combining electronic and sampled sounds with live instruments.

The styles vary but there are definitely a few that should meet your search criteria.

The CD is available to buy directly from my website www.maninashedmusic.co.uk, or alternatively from iTunes, Napster and eMusic. The CD can also be purchased from the Dancesounds website.

Thanks

You may want to get in touch with these guys, they have been working with contemporary dance troups and as well as Audio they have a good line in lighting, AV visuals etc as well.
