Hey folks. I suppose this question is directed more toward Mike Weis because he's the only guy on this board that I know is from Chicago. But, if anybody else can help out, feel free. I've recently moved to the Chicago area and am really interested in the local music scene. I've been a big fan of Zelienople and Scott Tuma for quite some time now and loved watching you, Mike, playing with Tuma after Taradiddle was released. Basically, I'm just wondering if you'd recommend any other local acts to check out preferably bands in a similar vein as you fine folks. The bands that I've found and really enjoyed thus far include Mako Sica and Caboladies. So, I suppose I'm looking for some good psych, noise, electronic, werido kinda stuff. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

Hey Molt, thanks for the compliments. As for Chicago recommendations, I made a mix of local stuff recently and it's posted here... http://www.rockittothemoon.com/Out-Sounds-From-... . There's a live track on here from 2003 of Tuma playing with Jason Ajemian on upright bass, it's superb.

Check out David Daniel's many projects (he plays around town a lot) and the many acts that Steven Hess is involved with (On, Haptic, etc.).

If you have any interest in Free Jazz and Improvised Music, it doesn't get any better than this town. Pretty much every night of the week there's something going on. Check out this site for the schedule... http://www.now-is.org/

Some great under-the-radar venues worth checking out are Enemy (http://www.enemysound.com/), Ottoman Empire (http://www.myspace.com/ottomanempirehouse), Halfway House, and The Mopery (http://themoperychicago.blogspot.com/).
