What would you like to see Type release on vinyl?

Not that I would ever assume to question John's impeccable taste, but I'd love to hear from you all as to a wish list of albums that never made it to vinyl that you'd like to see given the sublime Type treatment. Mine would be a tie between Concern's "Truth & Distance" and "Stil." by Taylor Deupree - though this last one, I hear, may happen on 12k, but remixed as lock-groove pieces.

I have a feeling Brad wanted to do 'Truth and Distance' (amazing record...) and I'm totally with you on Stil. - amazing, amazing record, definitely my favourite from Taylor. There are some really exciting re-issues on the horizon this year though... keep your eyes peeled :) |

ocean fire by willits + sakamoto
amazing work |

Styx - Pieces of Eight |

The following all deserve vinyl issues. Le Lendemain - "Fires" Solo Andata - "s/t" Library Tapes - "A Summer Beneath The Trees" Hildur Gudnadottir - "Without Sinking" |

Loosegrip - get out. I've spoke with Gordon from Concern recently, and he said there were no plans for a Digitalis vinyl release of T&D - odd, since Brad had mentioned last year that this most likely was happening. Gordon did say that the fine folks at Boomkat were talking to him about helping get it out, but all conversations since then have fell silent. What a shame. I told him he should look into doing a Kickstarter project for it. Also, I think anything by The Lickets on Type would be amazing. It might not fit, visually, with the grainy b&w aesthetics of Type, but sonically spot on. |

the conversations re: T&D/digitalis/etc are still happening. just chatted w/ gordon about it last week. it'll be out on digitalis one way or another. |

Emeralds - The Overlook: Someone may already have plans for this but it's one of my favourite Emeralds releases. A criminally limited cassette (75 copies i believe) from last year that definitely deserves to get a proper vinyl release. |
I agree on the Overlook, too - already aksed the band a couple of times... still my favourite release of those, absolute stunnah. |

John knows exactly which reissues I would love to see on vinyl. And that is also why I am going to keep my mouth shut about those ones...
But what about Shuttle - Optimal.lp And Heavy Winged - Shaking, Waking (no, not that one Aurora Borealis, that is Waking, Shaking but that cd-r release that is nowhere to get) |

Goldmund | Corduroy Road. |

There will be some Heavy Winged on Type before the year is out, Sietse :) |

The Sight Below: It All Falls Apart (Seriously, is Ghostly not going to press this ... wtf?) |
deathprod - morals & dogma, treetop drive |

I second The Sight Below. "Glider" really, really should have been released on vinyl. |

Almost certainly too big a project by now (seeing as they're up to their third) but would be great to see the Luigi Archetti & Bo Wiget 'Low Tide Digitals' albums get the vinyl treatment. Much under-rated releases in my opinion. Also agree on that Emeralds, and there are plenty of other releases from the past few years on the cassette fomat that deserve a wider airing - I'm still just about resisting the urge to re-enter the world of tape! Off the top of my head: BJNilson/Stillupstepya 'Space Finale', Summonds of Shining Ruins 'Bud Variations', and Alter Eagle 'Judo Songs' (although I think we might be in luck with that one). |
'Space Finale' is shockingly good. It somehow works on cassette though :) And yeah... I wouldn't worry about Altar Eagle... that's in the bag, so to speak! |
@John, good to hear about Heavy Winged vinyl :) And in general: I just hope Type won't turn to cassettes also...it is not really my thing, all those cassettes. I got a few of them (of which almost all I got) but I tend to almost never play them (some played even only once or twice in the past 2 years that I have them). |

yeah, agreed on cassettes. enough already. |

Some of the most interesting music being made right now is being released on cassettes on many different tape labels. i think its a great format. |
hell lies in... by no means do i have a problem with the music being released on tape, in fact, i have quite a few cassettes that i often return to. it's just that i don't like the medium and i don't think they'll stand the test of time-is that the allure? |
Why would they not stand the test of time??? I'm still listening to loads of music which came out on cassette labels back in the early eighties and they still play well...and have lasted a lot better than some of the cd-r releases whch have come out just within the past few years. If you take proper care of your cassettes they should well stand the test of time... |
Apologies, I didn't mean to start a tape debate (well, not on this thread anyway). I have no problem with the Cassette format either, in my case it's simply a matter of time. I often feel that I don't have enough listening hours in the day to do justice to all the CD's and Vinyl that I buy (and money in the bank come to think of it!), so not having a cassette deck is a pretty effective way of keeping me out of that rapidly growing market. You've gotta stop somewhere I suppose, but its never a bad thing that so much good music is getting released whatever format it's on. Right, back to the vinyl releases.... |
i hope it doesn't seem like i'm attacking the format, but personally, in my experience and due to my preference for vinyl, i don't want to resort to buying something on cassette if i can help it. i'm surprised that your tapes have lasted as long as they have, but i've found that they deteriorate and acquire a fair amount of 'noise' after some time. since the magnetic tape cannot be properly cleaned, as in the case of vinyl and cd, the dust that accumulates has detrimental effects. also, i can recall that when i twisted my black moon 'enta da stage' tape many moons ago and spent countless hours trying to unravel it, it scarred me for life. then again, if you weigh this against the prospect of never being able to hear a piece of music because the format wasn't available, then that would be a much bigger issue. this is all coming from someone who thinks every piece of music should be released on vinyl, so i'm extremely biased about these kinds of debates.
