ON LAND Festival pre-sale is up. |
anyone else going? |
great line-up but a bit out of the direction for me to go... |
I'll be there. -weis |
Screw you, West coast. Seriously. |
i'm just bitter that I'll be missing this. I'm attempting to console myself with the fact that I won't be missing a Tarentel set but it's not doing much good. On that note, Tarentel seems to be pretty defunct these days which makes me sad. |
see you there weis. :) |
I am reasonably certain I will be attending...at least for the last two days. |
I'll be there too... obviously. |
Going all four days. What an unbelievable lineup. |
Yeah apart from the fact I'm playing, I'd go anyway... heh. |
Only $45 for all four shows is complete steal. Definitely buying some wax to compensate. This will be my first XELA experience. I'm excited to see you in person John! |

insane weekend, so much good music! I missed the last night but the highlights of what I did catch were... Oneohtrix Point Never (pure synth bliss) Pete Swanson (buzzing shoegazing noise with Scott Walker-esque vocals!) Date Palms (raga drones with a bass anchor that reminded me of late Spaceman 3 / early Spiritualized) Grasslung ( the most ambient act of the fest and it was done right. Heavenly clouds of layered sounds) Operative (for bringing the rave to the fest!) I missed most of the first night because of the unexpected punctuality of the schedule (we're not use to keeping timely commitments in Chicago) Obviously the moments of ecstasy for me happened during the Xela / Zelienople sets. Playing to an attentive, packed crowd is a rarity for this kind of music. Much respect to Jefre and Maxwell for putting on the best fest out there these days and for bringing together such a great community of artists.

Next year ON LAND does EUROPE? :p |
you know.. On Land in Europe could happen.. supposedly one of the organizers might be moving to Germany... stranger things have happened... plus.. there's actually money in Europe for shit like this so a few dudes aren't totally losing their asses on shit.
man.. the music at the festival was SICK. overall too much for me and I gotta say all my top shit from the weekend had NOTHING to do with music... lots of buddies and good food and beer.. I think wasted Twells playing dice with wasted Witscher was high comedy and HARSH AS HELL. seeing all the portland dudes reminded me how I need to leave my house more.. SHUT IN |
I live for your amusement Swanson ;) Highlights for me : Grouper/Ilyas Ahmed/Operative/Rene Hell/Pete Swanson/Bill Orcutt/Grasslung/Onehotrix Point Never/Robert Lowe - lots of good fucking music! |
Well, if some of you guys come to Europe next year in September I might be able to get some things rolling for the festival called Incubate, in Tilburg, The Netherlands. It is about the biggest festival for Independent Culture in Europe. Check here: http://www.incubate.org I got some contacts with the organization and they are cool people. |
since Matt conquered his fear of flying last weekend we (Zelienople) might be up for some Euro travels. The biggest obstacle is cost. |
Yeah flying is of course the expensive part, but with enough gigs it should be ok. But you guys are on my top list "want to see live and have seen yet" together with Grouper and Richard Youngs (singing). Richard Youngs I will be able to scrap from that list next weekend though, as he will play this years Incubate.
Anyhow if you guys really want to come over just give a beep and I will start shopping around for you in the Netherlands (incubate for certain and will also try Amsterdam which shouldn't be a problem). John has my email address...(as sending PM's is not possible here). And this goes for all of you... |
thanks Orphax. Are you talking about Incubate 2011? When? Where?
wow.. yeh.. I'd love to come back to Europe, but I have no idea how it would work out for me with school stuff or flying with my gear.. it is a lot less complicated cost-wise since it's just me, but the other logistics are kinda fucked. yeh John.. that shit was FUN. epically weird crew. I think my top three were orcutt, aster and CEKE. That's probably because I had never seen any of those bands play... just about everything was good, if not great. The solo Tom Carter set in Oakland tho the night before the fest was the best thing in the bay tho.. and two days before that.. BALLOONS and PREGGERS killed it all.. |

Mike Incubate 2011 is in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Probably third weekend of September as it is this year.
