Check out some tracks from Norm Chamber's forthcoming LP below. Originally released on Sicsic Tapes at the end of last year, Illumination will get a much needed vinyl outing next month on UTS.

Read the ONLY review of the LP here: http://www.textura.org/reviews/panabrite_illumi...

I knew most people don't give a shit about the label but for a great release like this to be ignored is puzzling to say the least, Oh well!

@uts.  You sound more bitter about the music industry with each release.  By UTS100, you'll be threatening to come round to our houses if we don't buy it.

Not bitter, just disappointed and somewhat frustrated mate. Feel gutted for the artists getting their releases ignored more than anything.

And losing money is a bit of a bastard too....

Chris: totally into what you're trying to do, but from my point of view at least, the problem with UTS on vinyl so far is pretty simple... Your releases just haven't been interesting enough for me. Nothing has stood out. Times are hard and I cant buy many records, only the ones that are really good (and that's a subjective view, I know). That's the brutal truth, mate. I wish you all the best, but for me I want something more than (what I personally view as) give-or-take synth excursions to make me part with money that I cant really afford to spend anyway!! I hope you know what I mean... the UTS output so far just hasn't fired my imagination very much. i want something different from a grass-roots label., something innovative that I haven't heard before. It's a shame to say... but I hope you appreciate what I'm trying to say. Wishing u all the best, sincerely.

Another thing to take into consideration here is that there have already been two Panabrite LPs released this year, with Soft Terminal being the king imo (Sub-Aquatic Meditation seems like outtakes from the Jurgen Muller album?). He's also got a CD coming out soon on Preservation. That's four releases in a 6 month period or so, which is potentially a Panabrite overload. I remember checking out Illumination on his bandcamp and not being that into it. Would've rather seen a reissue of Wind Rider.

take both your points totally.

Not quite sure if you can lump stuff like Matt Christensen, Myrmyr, Black Eagle Child and Hess/McFall as 'so-so synth excursions'. I have been on a big synth thing this year as I've been listening to a tone of it over the last 18 months. All I can do is release the stuff I love, won't put something out unless I totally believe in it.

I almost reissued Wind Rider but preferred Illumination, it's one of Norm's faves too.

Unfamiliar with the Illumination tracks so far, I will check them out once the album becomes available at the distros I use. While there certainly is a sense of synth fatigue in experimental 'discourse' right now, I'd say that quite a few UTS albums stray from the formula (Christensen, Myrmyr, Hess/McFall). I hope we'll see more UTS vinyl releases in the future!

Then again, look at the Hess/McFall lp. Limited to 200, it received good press (iirc), yet is still available from the label, some nine months after its release. Which raises two questions:

1. The market for this music is simply too small.

2. I noticed at the time that Boomkat sold out of their copies rather quickly (no idea how many they had, though) but as far as I can tell, they never placed any backorder: once they were gone, they were gone. Maybe the problem is less with the product (as H_C has suggested) and less with the market (as 1. suggests) but with distributors playing it (too) safe, rather selling a few records less than sitting on unsold copies?

Arrived today thanks sir.  Need to sell 100's of these so you can do the Wind Rider reissue, as I'm well in Norm's stuff at the mo.

We spoke about reissuing Wind Rider but we both preferred Illumination. Wind Rider is awesome too, may well get a reissue as long as funds allow. Saying that I'd rather release new material when I release an LP from now on, never say never though ...
